oddly enough, right now i'm thinking this sort of dovetails with generic conservative philosophy: depend on yourself, do everything you can for yourself, yourself, and work to expand your independence. and by conservative here, i'm talking party line, but rather what my conservative friends tend to promote and propose.
they don't deny that charity and good works have a place, and are good for the commonwealth, but they're all about being as independent as possible from government interference: self-sufficiency and self-sustainment and taking responsibility for your own well-being.
i'm not sure i have an actual point here - it's Before Coffee. just riffing. but that's what i thought in reaction to this today.
well, that, and that i think i need to replace my strawberries...
