I'd never actually witnessed a real-life pissing contest before.
Oh, sure, I'd witnessed lots of human one-upmanship that was called a pissing contest, but I'd never seen a real one done by the dogs from which the term comes.
Last night, I got to do that.
Taz, the lonely little chihuahua from down the street, came to play with Itzl and Shika - and eat treats, because I always give them all treats when he comes to visit.
Like good little chihuahuas, they lined up in front of me, sat when I told them to, and gently took their treats one at a time. I had them follow other commands to get more treats and once the impromptu training and treat session was over, I told them to go play a while.
Well, Taz decided to pee on some dead plants I'd pulled up.
Itzl wandered over, sniffed, and peed exactly where Taz had peed.
Taz came back and peed on it again.
Itzl came back and casually peed on top of Taz's second layer.
And they casually kept this up until Taz had zip for pee left and was just lifting his leg.
By then, Itzl was straining to sprinkle just one drop more, and he managed to drip his last two drops on top of Taz's dry run, thus ending the pissing contest.
Shika, the little nutjob, dashed off the porch where she'd been sunning and watching the boys and enthusiatically licked Itzl in the face. He seemed surprised, but took it.
Taz watched, head tilted, then he wanderd off.
Itzl and Shika then went into the house. Taz came back by an hour later, peered into the house but didn't ask to come in or invite Itzl and Shka out to play with him. He wandered away again. Itzl and Shika ignored that visit.
The doggie pissing contest was far moe civil and calm than human ones, but I can see the resemblance clearly.
I wonder how they'll act today? Will they remember the pissing contest from yesteday and remain distant from one another? WIll they forget and become playmates again?
