I was just gifted with this waffle iron - it's a Belgian Waffle iron that has the pattern of roses on it!
Of course, I immediately had to make waffles with it and this is the very first waffle it made.
As it seasons and gets broken in, the waffles will be prettier and crisper, but this first batch was pretty and delicious.
Yes, I know, in the event of an apocalypse, my pretty waffle iron won't work anymore. That's why I have to use it at every available opportunity, and enjoy it as much as possible - and share the joy around.
I love all my odd and weird kitchen gadgets. If anyone were to name my kitchen style, it would be "Gourmet Global Kitchen with a Conscience". I've been working on permaculturing it for all the years I've lived here, and it's not quite where I want it to be yet, but it should be there eventually. I already have all the skills I need, and the food stocks are ecologically sound, supporting both a global fair trade economy and a locavorish economy. I have a lot of cool appliances, and a few weird ones. I keep seven Yeast Beasties. What I want to do is make the bones of the kitchen (floor, cabinets, walls, power supply, plumbing) as ecologically sound and green as I can. I'm still working with the original kitchen as it was in the 50's when this house was built, and the linoleum floors and particle board counters have just got to go, as does the ancient sink that has been re-porcelainized twice, and can't take another coating.
