If this is true, there would only be 2 things left to improve on Starbuck's - the cleanliness and the roast.
The cleanliness is the responsibility of each store, but there could be stronger oversight to ensure the stores comply with the sanitation guidelines.
The roast is not the fault of the companies from whom they buy their beans - they roast their own. There's a fine line between an Italian espresso roast and burned, and according to coffee cupping sessions, they've crossed the line more often than not.
I am glad they are once again offering brewed coffee - and even more pleased they are considering a separate line to order brewed coffee since it takes little time or effort to pick up a pot and pour coffee from it into a cup.
I just hope they don't use an espresso roast for the brewed coffee.

In that article, they mention free upgrades. Of those, the extra whip is already free. I might get a card to get free syrup upgrades, though, and free wifi.
We finally have a local independent shop that pulls a good espresso shot, though, and they have free wifi. They don't hassle me about my soy allergy. They have homemade whip. And a comfy couch. Parking sucks, though, so I only go there on my (frequent) walks.
