Sometime since Cookie Day, someone using my computer (and that's been a lot of different people) clicked on the "upgrade now" button for FireFox.

As a result, I have lost all of my bookmarks.

All of them, including the one for checking my work email.

I didn't realize it until we were into the mandatory 4 day weekend and didn't have access to my work email to get the instructions for checking my work email remotely.

When I go back to work tomorrow, I will have so much junk email to sort through!

Usually, when I'm not at work, I clear the email of spam every day just to keep the clutter and noise down. I get a lot of spam at work. Oddly, I rarely get any spam on my personal emails.

And now I have the somewhat interesting task of rebuilding all my bookmarks.

I am so sorry. :(

I have learned the hard way to back up my bookmarks to a file in a separate folder every few weeks or so or whenever I next remember it.

Well, since I use a lot of different computers (some are public computers and so won't have bookmarks), I have memorized the URLs of all my most commonly used bookmarks. That's only about 40 or so, so getting them back was quick enough.

It's the ones I only visited a few times that are gone, and perhaps that's no loss.

Oy. *sympathy* I've had that happen (bookmarks vanishing in an upgrade), though not with Firefox.

I email my bookmarks file to myself every few months; all that gmail storage space is useful for stuff like that. I started doing it when a friend gave me his used laptop a couple of years ago, and I wanted the bookmarks on them to match, at least more or less... (I *do* delete the older versions once I've got a new one there.)

(I learn all these useful extra backup tricks the hard way. *very wry*)

I'd never had my bookmarks go away except when getting a new computer. I'm taking this as an opportunity to "clean up" my bookmarks and find new and interesting ones. I memorized the URLs of all the important websites and already have those back.

I've been using Delicious for my bookmarks.

I tried that and couldn't figure out how to use them, so I gave up. Yep, there goes the geek cred.

I never figured delicious out either ... and I'm not sure I want all my bookmarks out in internet-land, anyways.

I have a husband who tinkers with the computer software at unpredictable intervals.

I put all my favorite bookmarks in an HTML file and posted it online.
