We have about half an inch of ice coating things and sleet coming down still. It's been sleeting since 10:00 a.m. yesterday.
Sleet is marginally better than rain that then freezes because it's less damaging to the trees. When we get rain, it soaks the trees, penetrates into the bark and cracks and crevices. Then, when it freezes, we get exploding trees, downed limbs, and downed powerlines. Sleet is already frozen so it doesn't penetrate the weak places in trees and it doesn't weigh the trees down so much.
Both, however, are nasty on the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.
I'm still waiting on some parts for my car so I can't drive it, and the person with whom I've been carpooling is not "essential personnel" so her office is closed in this weather. Therefore, I'm not at work because I have no way to get there. I am not "essential" enough that they dispatch a special driver to pick me up, and this makes me sort of happy.
They love me at work, and miss me when I'm not there, but I think the car accident made them realize I'm not exactly immortal.
Actually, to be utterly honest, I think they are more worried about Itzl's safety going out in weather like this, so they are OK with me staying home.
And if it keeps sleeting like this, I may not be able to make it to work tomorrow, either. The temperature was supposed to get up to the lower 30's today and it's still below 20 - and sleeting.
So, with a "free" day, I am going to do some writing, and I may re-organize my sewing area. I can also check my MedFaire garb and refurbish it. I need to adjust my brand new parsley cloak, the interior lining is too tight and it doesn't hang as nicely as I'd like. I have plenty of fabric left to be able to add in some gussets, gores, or even wider strips if necessary. I'd like to make a couple of undergowns for the muslin gown and the buffalo check gown. And I want to embroider my new hats and finish them off prettily.
And I need to make some matching costumes and carry bags for Itzl.

I'm still hoping for snow, but I live in walking distance of work so I don't get snow days anymore. But having skidded and swirled and done 180s and 360s on slippery roads before, I really don't mind the trade-off.

I wrote 1 short story and added 4,000 words (combined) to 2 WIPs, and did some revision on another WIP. If tomorrow is another ice day, I hope to do as well.
