This is my ride's car - the tires are currently frozen to the street, and it will be late afternoon before it's thawed enough to break up and drive the car without shredding the tires, so even if all offices were open and my ride had to go to work (and therefore take me to work), we still wouldn't be able to go.
Last year, when the tires froze to the street like this, and we tried to break up the ice around them, we ended up puncturing one tire (and we were careful!) and two other tires left their tread behind in the ice, leaving us with three flats.
We aren't going to do that this year.
This year, we're de-icing the tires much gentler, so it will take much longer.
And so I get another "free" day.
It's doubly free because the day off doesn't count against my leave time.
