This is all very true, but there are other things that need to be taken into consideration.

Like the fact that a high-carb diet was excellent for families who engaged in hard physical labor for most of their days, but it's a terrible idea for people who spend most of their days at computers and the like.

Truthfully these days, urban folks should be making a combination of fruits & vegetables, plus protein sources their main food source. At least, according to my nutritionist.

When you are working on survival, a high carb diet is essential because you will need the energy and calories - even those of us in urban and suburban areas. We'll walk more, do more manual cleaning and lawn work as fuel for our power tools becomes scarce, and so on. I don't think carbs are the big Bugaboo nutritionists claim they are. If so, many more Asians would be portly. I think the culprit is all the fake foods we as Americans eat and all the excess protein.

You probably missed the post where I said things under the "Provident Gourmet" heading were survivalist posts.
