Here's part of what I harvest every day - what I harvested as I walked in the door after I got off work today. The chamomile, dill, and chives have yet to take off, but they need harvesting to encourage them to grow and keep them from going to bloom and seed too soon.

And here we have the strawberries that I'm now harvesting every day - all from the single strawberry plant I planted last year and even sharing strawberries with the rolypolies.

I'm trying to figure out a way now to do indoor vegetable gardening with six cats and two dogs in the house. :/

Good luck! I suppose it could work if the plants were in windowboxes on shelves with fluorescent lighting to help them along - or hanging baskets near windows and - again - with fluorescent lighting to supplement any sunlight/daylight.

Yes, one way or the other they would need to be elevated. I'd have to figure out a good way to get the fluorescent lighting in...

BTW, your "Food Waste" entry is now printed (with comments) and settled comfortably in our kitchen. We're always on the lookout for ways to extend the life of our food.

Thank you - anything I can do to help people stay fed, fat, and happy!

I am thinking elevated is the way to go for my herb garden when fall comes (late September around here you can start expecting frost)... only thing is when I tried hanging plants off the wall brackets, they pulled out of the (exceedingly old) plaster!

Sounds like you need a studfinder (http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/skill-builder/0,,212066,00.html).

Thank you! In spite of the rolypolies eating them, I'm still getting a double handful of strawberries from the single plant I planted last year (although it has spread out to 9 new plants over the winter).
